 About Karen Gangel, LMHC,
CEAP Karen Gangel is the owner of Carrollwood Village Counseling Associates and the Managing Partner of eap on call (www.eaponcall.com), providing employee assistance programs to businesses of all size. She also sees patients at the Neuropsychiatric Institute in Tampa , FL. Karen is a highly skilled mental health therapist who believes in establishing realistic treatment goals and helping individuals learn skills that will be available to them throughout a lifetime. She applies her diverse professional and life experience to all that she does. As a long term cancer survivor, Karen is sensitive to life's challenges and instills her patients with the motivation and tools to overcome whatever they may be facing. She spent years as a classroom teacher (Bucks County, PA) and an Elementary School Counselor (Hillsborough County Schools, FL). Karen provided therapy for members of Cigna Healthplan in their staff model HMO prior to working in private practice. While at Cigna, she was also the Director of Health Education & Wellness . Karen brings years of experience from the corporate, medical, behavioral health and educational sectors to her expertise in employee assistance program and work/life services. She has developed and conducted countless training sessions for all types and sizes of businesses, with special focus on organizational change, delicate workplace issues, communications, and management skills. A Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH 1076) and Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), her unique, experience-based, common sense presentations bring frequently overlooked insights and sensitivity to human behavior. Karen is an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Florida where she teaches at the graduate level. She is also registered with the State of Florida as a Qualified Supervisor for individuals seeking licensure as mental health counselors (LMHC) and marriage and family therapists (LMFT). She has long been involved in all phases of employee assistance programs. As the Director of Workplace Effectiveness for United Behavioral Health for 8 years, Karen was responsible for the development and implementation of training and consultation services nationally for customer companies with EAP services. She is a seasoned Mitchell-trained Critical Incident Stress Debriefer (CISD), and developed and introduced a program for the 150,000 employees of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, specifically directed toward the reduction of workplace violence and trauma. Karen continues to provide training and organizational consultation for numerous corporate groups. Karen earned a BS in Education/Psychology from West Chester University (PA) and an MA in Counseling from the College of New Jersey . Post graduate studies include course-work at University of Florida and Nova University. She belongs to Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA), Network of Executive Women (NEW), Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association (SCMHA), and Suncoast Healthcare Executives (SHE).A native Philadelphia, Karen has been a resident of the Tampa Bay area for over 30 years. In her spare time, she caters to the whims of her miniature dachshunds, and enjoys cooking, photography and travel. One hobby includes a partnership in Everything Pickled, Inc. (www.everythingpickled.com), a boutique manufacturer of fine gourmet pickles and pickled vegetables.
